Mrs. Christina Dixon came to my classroom for an author visit. She not only read her book, I Am The Moon to my students, but she also did an amazing hands-on activity with them, creating individual galaxies in a jar. The students LOVED her book. They were engaged during the read aloud, and asked lots of questions. The storyline is fun and exciting, while also tying in facts about space science that got my students extremely interested in the topic. The pictures in the book are beautiful, and not only helped to engage my students in the story, but were detailed and assisted in bringing the story to life. After the read aloud, Mrs. Dixon worked with the students to create their own galaxies in a jar, that were not only beautiful but glow in the dark! We were all able to create one and take it home. This got my students even more interested and excited to learn about space science. I can’t wait to be able to purchase the book for my classroom, and read it every year with my students!
